NASA Deploys Google Gemma 3 In Orbit
The Jet Propulsion Laboratory sent Google's Gemma 3 into space via the NAVI-Orbital system. This first-of-its-kind demonstration used a vision-language model to analyze imagery directly from a Loft Orbital satellite sensor. The success proves that lightweight LLMs can process data on-orbit, reducing the need to beam raw imagery back to Earth.
