Māori Text-To-Speech Model Rejects Big Tech Data
Only 4.3 percent of New Zealanders speak te reo Māori fluently. While LLMs scrape indigenous data without consent, a new community-led text-to-speech model prioritizes linguistic sovereignty over scale. This project rejects the data-harvesting norms of Big Tech. It provides a blueprint for indigenous groups to control their digital heritage.
