NASA Deploys Google Gemma 3 in Orbit
NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory sent Gemma 3 into space via the NAVI-Orbital system. The vision-language model analyzed imagery directly from a Loft Orbital satellite sensor. This first in-orbit demonstration proves that lightweight LLMs can process data locally in space. It enables a more direct, intuitive way for ground researchers to interact with spacecraft.
