NASA Deploys Google Gemma 3 in Orbit
NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory sent Gemma 3 into space via the NAVI-Orbital system. The vision-language model analyzed imagery directly from a Loft Orbital satellite sensor. This first in-orbit demonstration proves that small, capable models can process data locally. It reduces the need to beam raw imagery back to Earth for analysis.
