AI Safety Papers Grow 25-Fold Since 2019
Only 4.2% of papers at ICLR, ICML, and NeurIPS focus on AI safety. Despite the low total, the share of safety research climbed from 0.3% in 2019 to 8.3% in 2026. This trend reflects a rapid shift in academic priorities. Researchers can now track these 2,328 papers via a new interactive classifier.
