Republic Services' new recycling plant in Peabody, Massachusetts, uses artificial intelligence to sort materials. The system scans each item, identifies its type, and directs it to the correct bin, cutting manual labor by up to 30 percent. Other waste facilities can replicate the approach to boost throughput and reduce sorting errors.
